      恭城人对粑粑情有独钟,种数就有十几种之多。俗话说,“油茶当饭,莫忘粑粑。”讲的是很多人虽然是干体力活的,但早餐一般只喝油茶不吃饭,靠几个粑粑抵挡饥饿。做粑粑吃粑粑当作过节的一种象征,每逢过节家家户户必做粑粑吃粑粑,而且每一个节气的粑粑各有不同。

   

恭城本地的习俗是在清明节做艾粑。在恭城的田间地头,用来做艾粑的艾叶随处可见。这种艾叶与端午用来避邪的艾蒿相似,但没有硬而高的茎秆,做出来的艾粑没有丝毫的纤维,整个绿而晶莹剔透,吃在嘴里散发出艾叶特有的清香。恭城人做艾粑,一是用来供奉祖先,二是利用艾粑这一具有药性的野菜来清凉解毒、祛病强身,三是利用做艾粑使全家老少聚在一起,增进家庭成员之间的感情。

  Gongcheng people have a fancy for Ciba (glutinous rice cake), which there are as many as tens of the sorts of it. In common parlance, "Oil tea is the staple , and Ciba is indispensable." This proverb reveals that thought working on hard labor many drudges drink oil tea but not having meal with rice or other staple foods as their breakfasts, and use Ciba to remit hunger. Making and eating Ciba is the symbol of a festival. Every family will act up to this habituate, and every solar terms the sort of Ciba is different.


The local customs to make Mugwort Ciba in Gongcheng is in Pure Bright Festival. In the rim of every field, the mugwort leaves use to make Ciba are ubiquitous and although this kind of mugwort is similar to another kind of mugwort used in the Dragon Boat Festival to exorcise evil spirits, it has no hard and high stalk. The Ciba made of mugwort  contains the slightest plant fiber, and the wholeness of it is soft green and glittering and hyaline. With a bite of Ciba, there is an unique fragrance of mugwort leaves brimming in mouth. 


 The reasons why Gongcheng people tending to make mugwort Ciba maybe concluded three aspects. Firstly, it is used to worship ancestors. Secondly, it is used to keep people's health: dispelling internal heat, eliminateing toxin and resisting disease for mugwort has medicinal functions. Thirdly, it is used to reunify the whole family together to enhance the harmony and sentiment among every member.
